If you don't know where you're going, how will you know when you get there?

Written by Jenn Leave a Comment

It’s the beginning of a new year, so have you thought about what you’d like to achieve in your business over the next 360 days?

If you don’t have a plan, you’ll be just like a ship without a rudder. You’ll be blown any which way the economy pushes you.

I don’t know about you, but that is certainly not the way I want this year to go. Been there, done that and it wasn’t pretty!

The thing with goals is that in order to make sure you’ll achieve them they have to follow some basic rules.

1. They must have deadlines. A goal is a dream with a deadline. Goals without deadlines are just wishful thinking. Make sure you have set a specific deadline for each of your goals to push you to take action to reach them.

If need be, break the goal down into smaller action steps. That way you’ll be able to see your progress as you go.

2. They have to be measurable. You won’t know if your making progress unless there is some way to measure it. Say you want to increase your business by $XX,XXX. How much do you need to make each month to achieve that goal? How many more sales or clients will you need to bring in to reach that $ figure? Do you want to grow your list by XXX amount. How will you do that?

Again, break each goal down to smaller measurable steps so you’ll have a better handle on it. Don’t forget to schedule in time to review your progress each month to be sure you’re staying on track.

3. They have to be realistic. Sure, I want my business to grow to a 6-figure business, but it sure ain’t happening in the next 3 months! In order for you to stay consistent and not loose steam, make sure you’re setting realistic goals for yourself.

Growing your business by $XX,XXX in 6 months seems pretty huge, but if you break it down into smaller chunks, say gaining 2 new clients each month, it seems much more doable.

Your assignment is to set up at least 3 new goals that you’d like to achieve for this year. Be sure to follow the rules I outlined above.
