“I’d rather scrub toilets than do my work.“
What to do when you just don’t have passion for your business anymore.
1. Focus on the areas that you enjoy
As a business owner, there will always be things in our work that we love and things that we don’t like, but have to do anyway.
The key is to focus on the stuff you really love doing. The stuff that you are passionate about and can ‘get lost for hours’ doing.
Use that work as a reward for after you’ve done the stuff you don’t like. Get it out of the way first thing in the day so it doesn’t consume all your time.
2. Delegate the icky stuff
Get help to complete the stuff that you don’t like doing. One of my mentors says that it’s good to hire people that play with the stuff that you don’t like doing.
In other words, find outside help from people who have a passion for doing the things that you’re not so good at or that you don’t like doing.
Hate bookkeeping, hire someone who loves numbers and ‘gets lost’ when creating balance sheets.
Can’t stand making follow up calls to clients/prospects, hire someone who is a natural talker and who has no problems chatting with new people on the phone.
3. Switch gears
If what you are doing isn’t working for you now and you’ve lost any passion you might have had at the beginning of starting your business, don’t be afraid to switch gears.
Either narrow your focus on a specific area of your business that you are still passionate about or find something completely new to start.
We all evolve and that includes our businesses too. Don’t be ashamed to close down that part of your business in order to open the door to something else spectacular.
You never know where it might lead! 😉
Your assignment: Take an inside look at what you’re doing now and find the key area that makes your heart sing. Use that as a focal point each day to remind yourself about what you are doing. It will help make your days fly by!
You started your business for a reason, don’t let it turn into a JOB because you got stuck.
Break free and start loving your business again!
